MARCH 29
WELCOME HOME Vietnam Veterans Event
Presented jointly by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 240, Sumner County and American Legion Post 17, Gallatin.
The event will be held at the Sumner County Council room at 355 Belvedere Drive N. in Gallatin. Refreshments and conversation at 6:00 PM, followed by a program and presentation ceremony from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
Featured speaker will be Susan P. Hunter, veterans advocate and author of “77 Letters Operation Morale Booster: Vietnam”, the heart-warming story of her mother’s tremendous efforts to correspond with and befriend our troops who were serving in Vietnam.
Those familiar with the Vietnam Era will recall that the then-rising public opposition to that war tragically resulted in our troops not being respected, appreciated and not “Welcomed Home.” Those scars run deep among those who served, and this event can serve as ointment upon those scars.
During the event, Vietnam veterans attending will be ceremonially honored, along with special recognition of their surviving spouses. Families and friends of Vietnam veterans are cordially invited to attend as well as others who support and appreciate these veterans, and their spouses and families who “served from home.”
This event is held worldwide on March 29, in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.
